Book review

To Kill a Mockingbird is a classic novel written by Harper Lee. It has won the author award and Pulitzer Prize award. The book is in the eyes of a little girl named Jean-Louise Finch also known as Scout. She starts off by talking about the time her older brother, Jem broke his arm. At first the novel talks about how Jem and Scout have their adventures of trying to meet their weird neighbor, Arthur "Boo" Radley. He was the outcast of the community of Maycomb. They would violate him by trying to expose him and make him come out of his house. They heard a lot of bad things about him that were not true. In reality he was a good person and he just liked his privacy. He did a lot of good things for Scout and Jem but very secretly that they werent aware of it until later. He is the one that ends up saving both of them.Through out the book another problem was a court case. It was about a colored man name Tom Robinson who was accused of raping a girl named Mayella Ewell. She was a very lonley girl who wanted a friend so she tried to seduce Tom. Tom would help out Mayella sometimes with her chores when she asked for his help. Mayella's father, Bob Ewell was a very bad man with a drinking problem. When he found out Mayella was hanging out with a blackman he was furious. So he beat her up until she was black and blue. We find out occasionalloy he would also rape her. To cover up his own mistake she forced Mayella to blame Tom. Tom wanted no part of Mayella and was only looking to be her friend and help her. Tom Robinson was guilty of his crime even though the defending argument was strong and it was clear he had no intention of hurting Mayella. It was a time of social prejudice and racism. Thats why he didnt win. Tom eventually dies in prison The lawyer defending Tom was Atticus Finch, Scouts father. Later on in the book Bob Ewell wants revenge from Atticus for making him look bad so he attacks Atticus' children. Luckily Boo Radley helped save their lives. These events make up to give the message of the book. Which is also potrayed in the title. One famous quote that Atticvus states is " It is a sin to kill a mocking bird.Mockingbirds don't do one thing but make music for us to enjoy but sing their hearts out for us. That's why it's a sin to kill a mockingbird." The mockingbird can also represent characters in the story such as Boo Radley he was a real gentlemen and people saw him as an outcast. Tom Robinson was a innocent helpful citizen and people saw him as a violent blackman. They both did good and never hurt anyone. This book gives the message of not judging people too quickly until you put put yourself in their shoes or thier skin becaue not everything is what it seems. Another major theme is to accept people for who they are as people and not alienate them because of race. Stop social inequlity, racism, and prejudicism. This is the statement the author was trying to make. This is why I love this book it is a great example of things that still go on and it teaches a valuable lesson. Like Muslims and Arabs being discriminated for 9/11. Some who dont have anything to do with it. Even people from other races and other religions were discriminated because of the event. What I learned is racism is still alive deep inside, people just conceal it. Also remember that there are only two kinds of people in this World, good and bad. I strongly recommend this book and give it a 5 out of 5.

Kobe is Back

Kobe comes back his injury. He took a couple days off to recover so he doesnt risk more injury. The amazing thing is he played like he was playing for weeks. He came back strong and payed off for the Lakers as always. With 4.3 seconds left on the clock Kobe Bryant hits a three pointer at the buzzer. The final score was 99-98. Kobe dropped 32 points and had 5 assists on Tuesday nights game. The Lakers overall playe dwell too Pau Gasol had 22points and 13 rebounds. The Lakers were also 4-1 when Kobe was out. They are a good team one of the best in the west. I hope they can get another championship

school laptop webcams in homes of students

Students got their privacy violated when the school laptops they take home recorded their every move. The laptop's webcams allowed Lower Merion school district to view students by remotley activating the cameras without being aware of it. This is a serious lawsuit as there is evidence or images of Harrington Highschool students and their families nude. Also in other uncomfortable situations. Parents found out about the webcams when the assistant principal ofthe school spoke to a student about bad behavior at home. The superintendent of the school still didnt respond to this. Wow what was the school thinking and what were their reasons for this act. It is unappropriate on their part. There is no need for them to know what goes on at home. That is private they dont gain anything from it and it violates human rights. HOme is where your safe, how would you feel if you didnt know people are watching you in your home. Then after you find out that you were being watched you feel even worse. I think the school should apologize on their behalf and stop the webcam game. Also delete all the images or get rid of them andgive it to the rightful owners. Unfortunatley they didnt. If the school is that bad that students need to be seen at home then close it down. I understand cameras in school but at home without notification that I cant tolerate. The tracking gps on the laptop is alright but this should be illegal.

All star weekend slumps 2010

Man this years all star weekend was weak. Was maybe the worse entertainment out of all the years. The dunk contest was too hype for no reason. The 3 point contest was beter than that it atleast something to watch. The celebrity game blows and haier challenge was so so. The new horse competition was dry. I misssed the skills competition also I cant say anthing about that. The rookie challenge was whatever, it just went by. Also I tihnk the All star game was the most entertaining. The dunks in that game was better than the dunk contest itself. I dont know i guess it was just so bad. I expected it to be alright not too intense but atleast the dunk contest be good because of shannon brown he was a disappointment

Tmac on the Knicks

I'm glad to say Tracy Mcgrady is on the New York Knicks. He was traded through a 3 team deal with the Sacramento Kings and Houston Rockets. The Knicks got rid of Jared Jeffries, and Jordan Hill. They acquired Sergio Rodriguez and Tracy Mcgrady. They also traded off Nate Robinson to Boston for Eddie House. Now the Knicks have enough cap space for 2 max players. Possible candidates are Dwayne Wade, Lebron James, Chris Bosh, and Amare Stoudemire. I tihnk the trade was a good move. Now we have a good chance to get two star players and hopefully go to the play offs next year. Even though Mcgrady is not the gold he was before he is still can shine. The dude can still play and he was a good add to the team for now letrs see how he does to get him a real contract.Mcgrady

Grotesque vocabulary in Congo

I learned some new words today from incidents that happen in Congo everyday. One is auto canibbalism. Its when someone cuts their one flesh and eats it. They eat a part of their own body and this happnes in COngo. Militia in eastern Congo force people to do that. Another one is rerape. Rerape is basically self explanatory its when the women in Congo who get raped, reraped, and reraped and raped again and again. The author of the article is focusing how U.S. should start a diplomatic push for peace because we are a superpower. Even though we have are own needs and we are in a recession we have the ability to do this and its the right thing. The author talks about things we can do to help Ocngo out he has a four step process. He says we first have to put pressure on Rwanda and stop funding its tutsi militia in Congo. Basically stop the Rwanda war in Congo. The next step is to keep tabs on warlords and what they export or import. Also start returning civilian life in Rwanda. finally arrest people and build a army for Congo. I think we should have helped then long ago and not wait till now to put it on our shoulders because we have problems of ouru own. But we have to start somewhere.

How the War in Congo started

The fight in Congo was becasue of money and racial reasons. Congo is a wealthy country. It contains a lot of diamonds, gold, copper, and other rich minerals. The people of Congo never got the benefit of their own land. Instead the natural riches went to corporations, warlords and corrupt government. Because of them the population dispersed and turned into rival ethnic groups. There was one ruler who tried to stop the rebellions his name is Joseph Mobuto. He was successful at stabilizing the country but later he negan to use the couuntries riches to make sure he was in power. Which caused him his downfall and slipped the country away from his hands. In 1996 genocide in Rwanda, the neighboring country to Congo made his rule come to an end even faster. It also made the start of Congos biggest problems. After the Hutus in Rwanda were defeated they fled to Congo, fearing the Tutsi government. They joined forces with Mobotu and tried to eliminate Congos population of Tutsis. Tutsi militias allied with local troops in Uganda. They overthrew Mobtotu and Laurence Kabila became president. He changed the countries name from Zaire to Democratic Republic of Congo. Soon it became a proxy war when Kabila called Zimbabwe,Angola, and Namibia to defeat the Hutu militias. The next five years these countries fought and later on others. Some people accussed the different groups for using the war for covering up taking the countries riches. More than five million people died in the war and the aftermath, from both disease and starvation. Through all the fighting the civilians have suffered a lot because many get caught in cross fires and discrimination form the opposing militias. The country has now somewhat found peace and is beginning to restore but its taking baby steps because East of Congo is still unstable. The United Nations (UN) is trying to restore peace by helping civilians and reconstructing the country itself. Still it is complicated as they say now they have Warlords taking control and running their own personal militas, taking the natural resources of Congo as well. So its not over yet and its still not safe. This has been the longest war since World War II and we still have to stop it. So its a work still in progress.

War in East Congo affects its civilians

Man the things I heard and read about the stuff going on in Congo makes me thankful for the life I have. The position Im in, the opportunities I have. All the chances I get. This inncident Makes bad times in my life look like im crying over just spilled milk. This was a crazy article. I was just sick reading it. The article was about a young girl about th age of 9. her family was murdered. The Hutu militia killed her parents and took her sisters who were only the ages of 6 and 12. They took them to the forest to make them their wives and rape them. Chance Tombola, the 9 year old orphan got away. Chance fled to her aunts house Jeanne Birengenya. The same militia men came to her aunts house. Five men raped her aunt. they kille dher uncle by mutilating his body part. Cutting him open and all his intestines falling out it was described very graphic and gory. One man also raped 9 year old Chance. Chance and Jeanne both recieved STD's. Now they are both outcast in their society. This sounds like something that would happen in a movie but its hard to believe this kind of thing is happening everyday and no one is doing anything. Its sad they have to live that life. This war is going on for too long and i think someone should do something about it. People are dying and being abused everyday all over a rivalry between Hutus and Tutsis and probably things that happened a long time ago.

Kobe gets the glory

Kobe Bryants makes histroy when he became all time scoring king of the Los Angelos Lakers.Bryant finished off the game with a season high of 44 points Even though the Lakers lost he did an outstanding job. It was a close game the final game wsa 95-92. I guess the significance of the game made the concentration of winning get off balance. They didnt stay level headed. Kobe Bryant who was playing with a sore finger and a sprained ankle still had no trouble scoring he was gonna be on top eventually. Its inevitable it was simply just gonna happen. 31 year old Kobe Bryant now has 25,208 in 14 seasons of his career. Which now quincidently moved him to the 14th place on the all time scoring list of the NBA.
